Brabham BT44B (1975) Engine 2993cc V8 Cosworth DFV Race Number 80 (Unkown) BRABHAM SET /photos/45676495@N05/5169729402/in/set-7215 Designed by Brabham chief engineer Gordon Murray, the BT44 was a simpler design than the outgoing BT42. Powered by a Ford DFV/Hewland gearbox combination, but was very clean aerodynamically, making good use of its side skirts and airdams, the design can now be seen as a precursor to the ground effect cars yet to come. The BT44 was run in 1974 by Carlos Ruetermann partnered in the second car by Rickard Robarts, Ricky van Opel and Carlos Pace the car ran well registering three Grand Prix wins for Ruetermann (South Africa, Austria and USA) and a second place for Pace (USA) . The BT44 was modified to BT44B for 1975, Ruetermann and Pace were retained and the Team renewed their partnership with sponsors Martini. The BT44B finished second in the constructors Championship let done by a series of retirements. Ruetermann beig the most consistant, and scoring a victory in Germany while Pace won his home Grand Prix at Interlagos. Shot at the Goodwood Festival of Speed 30:06:2012 Ref: 87-064
