Being a plus-size woman is a harrowing experience, especially in a country where everyone has an opinion on what curvy women should wear. If you have been feeling uncomfortable and unsure about dressing up as a plus-size woman, then we have some good news for you! We spoke to four body positive influencers whose tips and tricks will not just help you put your best foot forward, but will also instill confidence in you.1. Tanvi Geetha RavishankarSource: Instagram/thechubbytwirler“The biggest tip I can give to anyone trying to embrace fashion with a big body is: don't dress to flatter your body. This essentially means dressing to look slimmer or accentuate the tinier parts of your body, which leaves you little to no room for experimenting with trends. If I had stuck to these archaic notions then I wouldn’t have been able to dress my apple-shaped body in skirts or trousers, and I'd have totally regretted it. The idea is to not look thin in your outfit, it's to look stylish and that rarely comes with sticking to ‘dressing according to one's body type’.”2. Payal SoniSource: Instagram/_payal_soni“There is a myth that bright and white colors aren't for curvy people. It’s time to break away from this mindset and embrace neon, white and other vivid colors if you have been shying away from them. Additionally, whenever you want to wear a flared dress, cinch with a belt to get an hourglass shape. Apart from that, wear your confidence as it makes every outfit beautiful.”3. Sonal SomaniSource: Instagram/sonalsomaniofficial“Curvy or not, every woman is beautiful because our differences make us unique. Having said that, I think a good dress is an underrated piece of clothing, especially for curvy women. Everyone should own at least one short bodycon dress as it defines your body and also, it’s fantastic for daytime events. For night outs, you can pair your bodycon dress with a chic blazer and a pair of sneakers. Many curvy women shy away from dresses, but I’d recommended browsing through different styles to find out what suits your aesthetics. My personal favourite is any kind of a bodycon dress which I can pair with sneakers and a shirt or blazer. Lastly, many curvy women avoid dressing up but that shouldn’t be the case. You should flaunt your confidence and not shy away just because you don’t have a conventional body type.”4. Nisha MansharamaniSource: Instagram/theplussizewomaniya“The idea of ‘wear what you want’ is really important, because who decides who’s supposed to wear what? Wearing whatever you feel like and being happy with is quite empowering and liberating. Our clothing choices shouldn’t be dictated by society or conventional beauty standards. As far as myths are concerned, I’d say absolutely go all out and wear those crop tops which you couldn’t or wouldn’t wear. That’s definitely one of the big things for me. Wear the skirts that you avoided because you were afraid to show those thunder thighs. Go wear sleeveless and noodle-strap tops without fearing what your arms look like. Be more liberated and free with the choices you make. Own yourself, embrace your body… it’s much more than what we show out there. Pour more love to yourself!”Do you agree with their advice?
